Task: A bench for two.
The challenge of the design was that the two materials of which the bench is made of were assigned to the teams by coincidence. For the following design the materials felt and paper were allocated.

Die Herausforderung des Entwurfs bestand darin, dass die zwei Materialien, aus denen die Bank bestehen soll, per Losverfahren an die Teams zugeteilt wurden. Für den folgenden Entwurf wurden die Materialien Filz und Papier gezogen. Betreut wurde der Kurs von Prof. Tino Melzer.

Cardboard frame
Corrugated cardboard made in Germany is almost always an environmentally friendly product. It consists of 80% recycled paper. The glue that is used is made of corn, wheat or potato starch.
Due to its structure and processing with cavities, corrugated cardboard has an insulating effect. In addition to that the corrugated structure cuases a remarkably stable lightweight construction.
The cover paper used on the outside is very tear-resistant. Testliner (100% waste paper), kraftliner (max. 20% recycled, very tear-resistant) or Schrenz paper (unsorted waste paper, low strength) are used here.
The cardboard can be coated or impregnated to make it resistant to fire, oil, splash water or condensation.
Felt throw
For thousands of years, wool felt has traditionally been used to manufacture hard-wearing textiles.
Like cardboard, felt can be processed excellently and is also easy to clean. The unique ability of felt is to absorb sounds from the environment and even to bind moisture in the room. This makes the material ideal for public spaces such as libraries or multi-purpose rooms.
Fire protection plays an important role in public spaces. Even when it comes into contact with an open fire, felt is not flammable but rather charred at a temperature of over 320 ° C.
Like cardboard, felt has a positive environmental balance. Neither chemicals nor solvents are used in the manufacturing of felt.
Gestell aus Karton
Bei Wellpappe, die in Deutschland hergestellt wurde, handelt es sich fast immer um ein umweltfreundliches Produkt. Sie besteht zu 80% aus wiederverwertetem Altpapier. Der Leim, der zum Verkleben der Pappe verwendet wird, stammt aus Mais-, Weizen-, oder Kartoffelstärke. Normale Wellpappe kann nach dem Gebrauch im Altpapier entsorgt werden und wird wiederverwertet.
Aufgrund ihrer Beschaffenheit und Verarbeitung mit Hohlräumen hat Wellpappe eine isolierende Wirkung. Dank der Wellenstruktur ist Wellpappe eine bemerkenswert stabile Leichtbaukonstruktion.
Überwurf aus Filz
Seit Jahrtausenden wird Wollfilz traditionell zur Herstellung strapazierfähiger Textilien verwendet.
Die einzigartige Fähigkeit von Filz, Geräusche aus der Umgebung zu federn und sogar Feuchtigkeit im Raum zu binden, macht dieses Material ideal für den Einsatz in öffentlichen Räumen.
Dort spielt der Brandschutz eine wichtige Rolle. Selbst beim Kontakt mit offenem Feuer ist Filz nicht entflammbar sondern verkohlt bei über 320 °C.
Wie Karton weist Filz eine positive Umweltbilanz auf. Bei der Herstellung von Filz kommen weder Chemikalien noch Lösungsmittel zum Einsatz.

It can be used for public events in cultural centers, libraries or multi-purpose rooms. Due to its low weight and easy storeability, the bench is ideal for temporary use. Visually, the simple shape conveys stability that one would not expect from cardboard furniture.
The wool felt throw is intended to indicate the originality of the material and it does not attract any artificial attention due to its natural colour. The shape of the cover is reminiscent of a package, which alludes to the materiality of the paper, although it is not directly visible at first. The throw can be removed, stored away separately and also washed.
Die Bank für zwei aus Filz und Papier ist eine temporäre Sitzgelegenheit für zwei Personen. Sie zeichnet sich durch ihr geringes Gewicht und die einfache Handhabung aus.Sie kann bei öffentlichen Veranstaltungen in Kulturzentren, Bibliotheken oder in Mehrzweckräumlichkeiten zum Einsatz kommen. Dank des geringen Gewichts und der guten Verstaubarkeit ist die Bank ideal für den temporären Gebrauch geeignet. Visuell betrachtet, vermittelt die einfache Form Stabilität, die man einem Möbel aus Karton zunächst nicht zumutet.
Die Form des Überwurfs erinnert an ein Paket, was auf die Materialität des Papiers anspielt, obwohl es auf den ersten Blick nicht direkt Sichtbar ist. Der Überwurf kann abgenommen, separat verstaut und auch gewaschen werden.
